Talks & Conferences

A selection of talks, conferences, and lecture series produced over the years. Subjects range from mental health to interactive technology; the culture of copyright to quantum physics; and from space exploration to the social aesthetics of digital culture. With a strong new media, technology and interactive studies orientation, my interests in conference and lecture production is strongly future-thinking.

 

Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Toronto (2021)

Role: Curation, program planning, content development, team direction and management

Directed 10 talks and panel discussions featuring emerging and established artists, cultural producers, and curators. International, national and local speakers, presentations took place virtually as well as in-person.

Featured guest speakers and moderators include: Sook-Yin Lee, Eriola Pira, the 3.9 Collective, Olivia Shortt, Azza El Siddique and Gabriel Dharmoo. Directed and mentored the production and producing teams.

Great Conversations Series (2018-2019)

Role: Event production, programming support, operations and logistics, budget management

A six talk series running annually from September to June, this program, hosted and produced by the Ontario Science Centre, features speakers on the cutting edge of science, technology, and interdisciplinary research.

Highlights of past speakers include Rick Green, David St-Jacques, Dave Williams, Marc Saltzman, and Nobel Prize winner Dr. Rainer Weiss. Programming partnerships included work with CBC, Toronto Star and RASC.

iVentures (2019)

Role: Event production, client and vendor management, operations and logistics, budget management

The iVentures conference is Interactive Ontario’s annual flagship, B2B industry event. Featuring over 50 speakers and panelists, 30 vendors, and multiple networking opportunities, this is a key interactive media event for cultural industry connectors, technology-focused individuals, and futurists.

The annual Expo that is part of this conference offers start ups and artists a chance to showcase their work and products to a highly engaged audience.

Ghost in the Machine: Technologies, Performance, Publics - McGill University (2008)

Role: Conference production, speaker program planning, operations and logistics, budget management

Co-produced by the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Music and the Institute for the Public Life of Art and Ideas, Ghost in the Machine addresses the relationship between technological innovation, composition, performance and the experience of music.

Featuring over 20 speakers and panelists, as well a 5 live performances and lecture-demonstrations, the conference included international presenters and attendees, and multiple local partnerships.

Intellectual Property and the Making and Marketing of Music in the Digital Age - Princeton University (2010)

Role: Conference programmer & curator

Taking place over the course of 2 days in 2010, the conference featured live performances, panel discussions, keynote presentations, and lecture-demonstrations. The conference highlighted three key elements:

  1. The (then) rise in sample-based and improvised music;

  2. Changing access to digital technologies has meant that independent artists have greater control over the dissemination of their work;

  3. Copyright as culture: alternatives have generated and fostered communities and subcultures.

Cultural Collisions - Ontario Science Centre and the Toronto District School Board (2019)

Role: Conference production, presenter management, tours and education group management, operations and logistics

Cultural Collisions is a science and art exhibit that delves into the creative elements of quantum physics study, highlighting the numerous and inherent artistry of the field.

With a strong education and learning mandate, the exhibition focused around adult learning and school group education opportunities, including hands-on activities, guided tours, and art installations from local artists.
