Nuit Blanche (2019 & 2020)

Nuit Blanche is one of the City of Toronto’s annual marquee events, spanning multiple neighborhoods, venues, and institutional partners. As one of the major institution partners for the program, the Aga Khan Museum joined other noteworthy institutions such as the Royal Ontario Museum, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Gladstone Hotel, and Harbourfront Centre.

The 2019 Nuit Blanche production Arrivals and Encounters: Sama had the largest footprint, impact, and greatest variety of programming in the museum’s history. The 2020 edition featured all-new projects created and produced by the Museum to be featured as part of an online production, to comply with COVID-19 restrictions.

 

2019 Highlights

  • Over 16K visitors, 13 different performance spaces, 3 different venues, with 113 performing artists and over 10 programming partnerships

  • Programming highlights included a site-specific commission featuring flamenco and belly dance for the courtyard space, a 12-hour long broadcast with CIUT, a live sufi sama, classical Hindustani music, and two installation art projects

2020 Highlights

  • All programming moved online as per the City of Toronto’s new regulations due to COVID-19

  • Four unique virtual presentations featuring local artist across a range of disciplines — dance, music, storytelling, and visual art

  • Over 100K reach across all platforms, including 30K individual visitors for all programs
